Midtown Art Center offers a fun, outstanding 6-weeks Summer Arts Program
that incorporates 3 of the Visual and Performing Art Forms.
Students are exposed to 5 elements of
dance - Ballet, Modern, Tap, Hip Hop and African dance, Theatre - which
incorporates Pantomiming, Acting, Light Design, Oratory, and Improvisation
classes, and Visual Arts - which highlights Drawing, Painting, and
Photography.
Each Friday students attend a Field
Trip designed to culturally and artistically enhance their appreciation and
knowledge. Last year's field trips included University of Houston's Theatre
Festival, NAACP's National Convention, Miller Outdoor's Children's Theatre
Festival, Houston Community College (to watch and emulate passing students
for a Pantomiming class), Project Rowe Houses, and a Sporadic Road Trip to
find "interesting" locations to take pictures for a Photography Assignment.
At the end of the 6-weeks program,
students demonstrate their talents at a Summer Showing where students are
responsible for hanging their art work and photography and participating in
a play incorporating dance and theatre. The Summer Showing is followed by a
"Mix and Mingle" reception where students' art work is viewed and discussed.
